Young musicians have a chance to shine

Acoustic Nights Montreal (ANM), a festival showcasing local musicians, is hosting its first young singer-songwriter competition geared toward teens ages 13-17. Participants are asked to write and sing a song, in either English or French. There will be a panel of judges, including Sabrina Correa (jazz vocalist and songwriter), Xlim (reggae singer-songwriter), Jonathan Rosner (professional rock guitarist), and Mehdi Cee (Hip-Hop artist and producer).

The event will take place on June 25, 2011 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Centre for Education and Theatre, 2205 Parthenais, #115, Montreal. The winner will be featured in a music video and will get an eight-hour recording session, a professional photo shoot as well as the opportunity to perform at the Acoustic Night 9 concert on July 23.

To apply, teens must fill out the application form by June 3 at www.acousticnightsmontreal.com/competition. All applicants can participate in a song-writing workshop on June 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Centre for Education and Theatre.
