Montreal Families

Would you like your child to do volunteer work?

On Aug. 26 from noon until 5 p.m., there will be a volunteer fair at Monkland Community Centre in N.D.G. that will provide information to the public on how they can help their community.

Organizations such as Bienvenue NDG (a project that helps with the integration of immigrants), CLSC-de-Benny-Farm, Eco-Quartier de NDG (an environmental action program), Maison Mosaik (a resource centre for families), NDG Community Council, Women on the Rise, New Hope Senior Citizens and Extra Miles Senior Visiting Program will be at the fair, providing various unique opportunities.

Kids and teens can deliver food to the elderly through the Meals on Wheels program, spend time with the elderly at the New Hope Senior Citizens Centre, or help out with sporting and recreational activities at the Benny Centre’s Outdoor Sporting Club or Monkland’s SharX basketball program.

In conjunction with the volunteer fair, the community centre is hosting an open house featuring food, music and a magic show for kids. Visitors will be able to check out information booths and watch demonstrations that will preview the upcoming fall schedule of events, services and sports programs. Some of these include martial arts, yoga, dance and a sneak peak of the community centre’s annual Halloween Haunted House.

The full fall schedule won’t be released until September but two new services have already been announced. Break City is a break-dancing class for kids, and Mathorium is a tutoring service that will offer bi-weekly sessions for $80/month.

The event is being held at 4410 West Hill Ave. For more information on the volunteer fair, contact Edward Cho at 514-484-7878 ext 3146.
