Three new summer camps

If you’re looking for summer camp ideas, here are some new programs. that will put a spring in your child’s step. All of them offer some form of music and dance, along with a host of other activities.

Dance Camp
If your little girl loves to dance, sing, and feel like an A-list celebrity, then this camp, run by the Centre Danse de Montreal, may be just the ticket for summer fun. At this girls-only camp, kids will learn four different styles of dance – hip-hop, ballet/jazz, Latin and Broadway, plus they’ll take part in singing and make-up classes as well as arts and crafts. Each child will have a photo shoot with a professional photographer and there will be a surprise: campers will meet someone well known in the business (a singer or choreographer).

Dates:  July 5-16 and August 2-13, 2010
Location: 1390 William St., Montreal
Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (extended care available)
Ages: 7-15 (girls only)

Jazz Kidz Camp
This summer program promises to be jam-packed with various types of musical expression and dance performances. Each day, kids will receive instrumental instruction and have the opportunity to perform in front of one another. Campers will be encouraged to explore a variety of music styles and they can also try out dancing and singing. Instruments can be rented and you can even sign your child up for private lessons (both at an additional fee). There will also be time for outdoor sports and play.

Dates:  June 21-July 2, 2010 (one-day and single-week sessions available)
Location: Kosa Performing Arts Centre, 5325 Crowley Ave., N.D.G.
Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (extended care available) 
Ages: 7-18
Prices: $475 for one week, $900 for two weeks

The Youth Stars Sports, Arts & Dance Summer Camp
This camp will help kids learn about healthy living and sportsmanship through a variety of activities, such as soccer, volleyball, yoga, dance (including hip-hop and funky jazz), as well as arts and crafts and debating. There will be sessions on nutrition, social skills and teamwork.

Dates:  July 5-9 or July 12-16, 2010

Hours: 9 a.m. to  4 p.m. (extended care available)
Ages: 5-12
Prices: $130/week (before June 1), otherwise $150/week
