Montreal Families

The Montreal Jazz Festival has kids’ activities and workshops

The ever-popular annual Montreal International Jazz Festival will offer several family-friendly activities aimed at getting kids interested in music. Children can enjoy the Rio Tinto Alcan Family Club, a venue at l’Esplanade de la Place des Arts that will be open every day from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will include a snack bar, a picnic area, an animation centre, and lounge and noise-cancelling headphones for children.

There is a new workshop this year from July 2 to 5 (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) where children can create two-tone watercolour paintings inspired by the Pink and Blue Face by Henri Matisse. And every day from noon to midnight, younger festival goers will have access to free games, face painting, crafts and educational activities involving music.

Parents can introduce their kids to the wonders of jazz by joining the Little School of Jazz’s Jacques L’Heureux and the Bande Magnétik quartet, led by James Gelfand for an interactive show with festival mascot Ste. Cat every day at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Grande-Place of the Complexe Desjardins.

This year’s festival runs from June 26 to July 5.
