Support groups for those with postpartum or grieving the loss of a child

Women who are feeling overwhelmed as they adjust to new motherhood or who are reeling from the loss of a pregnancy or young child needn’t feel alone. The West Island Women’s Centre offers two monthly support groups for women in these situations.

The Postpartum Group gives mothers a chance to meet, talk and share their feelings in a supportive environment. It’s facilitated by Corrie Sirota-Frankel, a counsellor and social worker. The group meets the first Tuesday of every month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and free childcare is available.

Healing Together, a support group for women coping with miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death, takes place the second Wednesday of each month from 7 p.m.  to 9 p.m. the meetings are led by a family educator and life coach, Monique Caissie.

Meetings take place at the West Island Women’s Centre at St. Columba-by-the-Lake Church, 11 Rodney Ave., Pointe Claire. Both groups are free of charge, but registration is required.

To join, call the Women’s Centre’s Outreach Line at (514) 781-8529 or e-mail outreach@wiwc.ca.
