St. Georges’ students win national singing competition
The St. Georges High School Glee Club proved its members could hold a tune when they won the top prize for the second year in a row at the Show Choir Canada Championships in early April. The “G Major” team won first place in the non-arts, large group category.
The Montreal private school also took home awards for Best Vocals, Best Choreography and Best Show Design against a competitive group of schools. The routine is inspired by the hit TV show Glee, and like that show, the 50-member St. George’s group seeks to use high school stereotypes to tackle issues of acceptance, friendship and self-confidence.
This year marked the fifth anniversary of the Show Choir Canada Championships, which is held in Toronto and combines pop music, dance and musical theatre. For those who wish to see G Major live, the group will be performing three concerts at Concordia University’s DB Clarke Theatre May 13, 14, and 15. The show, entitled Jukebox, starts at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $30 in advance (discounts apply to school members and staff) and can be purchased by calling 1-866-967-8167 or online at stgeorges.qc.ca
