To kick off summer and celebrate Montreal’s 375th anniversary, Mont-Royal is offering tons of guided tours and walks for the whole family to enjoy.

From June to October, you can uncover the history and nature of Mont-Royal through family-friendly walking tours in conjunction with Les amis de la montagne, a non-profit organization in Montreal. Space is limited for each tour, so be sure to reserve a spot.

Discovery Walk: One Summit at a Time offers short guided walks that showcase the three surrounding areas of Mont-Royal: Westmount, Outremont and the Mont Royal Summits. Every Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m., you’ll be able to check out the paths and vistas, as well as a new park before heading to Beaver Lake Pavilion for a bite and drink. From One Summit to Another is a guided nature walk at the heart of Montreal. Kicking off at the 360 degree Observation Deck and the interactive exhibition #MTLGO at Au Sommet Place Ville-Marie, participants will walk up the mountain along the Promenade Fleuve-Montagne and Kondiaronk Belvedere. These walks will focus on Montreal’s history and environment. Tickets cost $22 per person. The next walk is on July 29 from 2-5 p.m. and participants are asked to meet at the Ticketing/Admission Desk on Cathcart St. To reserve a spot, click here.

Those with a little more stamina will love the 15 km hikes as part of the Three Summits of Mont-Royal and From the Mountain to the River walking tours. With various dates throughout the summer, these tours kick off early in the morning and end in the afternoon for a full day of exploring the entire Mont-Royal territory. Walkers will have stunning views while they learn about the mountain’s ecology, urban planning and architecture. The tour is offered in French only and it is recommended that you bring your own lunch (otherwise, you can stop for a small snack at the Café des Amis. The walk will kick off at the Monument Sir George-Etienne Cartier on Park Avenue at 9:30 a.m. and will finish at 4:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 per person. The next tour is on July 9. Every Saturday until Oct. 28, kids ages 12 and up are invited to participate in activities that will help protect and conserve Mont-Royal’s natural habitats. Weekly volunteer tasks include caring for sapling trees grown in Les amis de la montagne’s educational nursery, invasive exotic shrub and tree control, and native tree and shrub planting. Volunteers will meet up at the Smith House (or elsewhere, if indicated by volunteer organizers) and events will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. To join, email benevoles@lemontroyal.qc.ca.

On Thursdays and Saturdays from July 13-Oct. 22, the 375th Anniversary Guided Tour will take participants from the Kondiaronk Lookout to the Mont-Royal Cross, and offer details about the history of Mont-Royal as they go along. Guided tours in French will take place every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. and in English on Saturdays at 2 p.m. The walks last 75-minutes and cost $10 per person. Lighter activities will include remote-controlled sailboat races and rowboat rentals on Sundays (July 9, Aug. 6-20 and Sept. 3) all summer long.
