Looking for a new wardrobe? You can find some new items for your closet and raise money for a good cause at an upcoming fundraiser hosted by a clothing boutique in Pointe-Claire.

On April 2 and 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Artizan boutique in Pointe-Claire will host a shopping night benefiting Trails of Summer, a non-profit day camp in the West Island for young people with special needs.

For the last 10 years, Trails of Summer has given kids who normally wouldn’t fit into your mainstream day camp a place to socialize, learn new skills and integrate into the community. They are a one-on-one day camp, meaning if they have 40 kids, they will employ 40 educators to run programs such as dance and art classes, swimming and activities like horseback riding and a day at La Ronde or at SkyTag trampoline park.

“The goal of the fundraiser is to showcase that we are more than just a day camp,” says Jessica Macintosh, assistant director at Trails of Summer. “A lot of our families live below the poverty line. We try to accommodate them as much as we can. We go on a lot of field trips to integrate them into society and show them and the public that they can go out (and function) in the community.”

Fifteen per cent of all purchases during the fundraiser will go directly to the camp. There will be sweaters, pants, boots, scarves, jewelry and other accessories for sale as well as a raffle (all those proceeds going to the camp).

The event will also function as a camp open house. Camp directors will be on hand to answer questions.
