Program offers newbies skiing and snowboarding at a low price

Was Michael Jordan still playing basketball the last time you hit the slopes? Does the thought of heading down a mountain on skis give you a flurry of butterflies in your stomach? Or are the kids begging to try out snowboarding for the first time? Consider taking a lesson with the newly-launched low-cost Ma Première Fois (Never Ever Days) initiation program from the Quebec Ski Areas Association (ASSQ) and Sports Experts.

Kicked off on December 18, 2022, the program is available at 40 participating ski areas in 13 Quebec regions and is for anyone 5 years and older. For the price of $29.95 plus taxes, the program is divided into two specific outings: on the first visit, participants receive a 60-minute group ski or snowboard lesson, full equipment rental including helmet, and access to the hill’s learning zone. On the second visit, the user gets free access to the learning zone as well as equipment rental.

“Practicing a winter sport is the key to a healthy lifestyle during the cold season and this program helps to make winter sports and outdoor activities more accessible,” shared Josée Cusson, Director of Communications and Marketing at the ASSQ.

To take advantage of the program, visit boutique.maneige.ski, choose the “My First Time” button, and find the participating resorts and their availability. Ski resorts will be adding newly available time slots throughout the season so the ASSQ recommends checking the website frequently.

Those with older children in Grades 4 or 5 can sign the kids up for the SnowPass, offered by the Canadian Ski Council. For $29.99, 9- and 10-year-old kids can ski or snowboard up to two times at mountains across Canada over the lifetime of the SnowPass, including a number of ski hills near Montreal such as Mont Rigaud, Belle Neige, and Station de Sports Mont Avalanche.
