Play street hockey, raise money

The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation and the YM-YWHA are teaming up to hold their second annual Hockey de Rue street hockey tournament to raise money for underprivileged kids.

The two-day event on Sunday, May 19 and Monday, May 20, 2013 will feature adolescent and adult teams facing off outside the Y’s location at 5400 Westbury Ave.

There will also be an exhibition game featuring former Canadiens players against a team of players chosen during the tournament. Youppi will be there, too. The street will be blocked off for the event.

Lara Goldenberg, the event manager for the Y, said the tournament raised more than $300,000 last year, and they’re aiming for $450,000 this year. Funds are used to support youth sports programs.

Money is collected through player registration, and participants are all encouraged to raise money for the cause, too.
