Planetarium offers special viewing of partial solar eclipse

Solar eclipses only happen a few times per year, so you won’t want to miss out on seeing the upcoming partial solar eclipse on Aug. 21. The Planetarium Rio Tinto Alcan will be hosting a special viewing party on Aug. 21 from 1:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. and will also offer free admission to the planetarium.

Special goggles will be provided and vision professionals including ophthalmologists, optometrists and dispensing opticians will be on site to answer any burning questions.

Representatives from the Planetarium Rio Tinto Alcan are giving workshops at libraries across Montreal to teach kids how to watch the eclipse safely. There will be one held at the Bibliothèque du Boisé in St.-Laurent on Aug. 11, at Frontenac Library in Hochelaga on Aug. 12, at Rosemont Library in Rosemont on Aug. 15, and at Bibliothèque Jacqueline-de-Repentigny in Verdun on Aug. 16. Registration is required.
