Tourists or locals looking for a little adventure have a chance to stay alongside Quebec’s historic waterway in a unique urban lodging. The Old Port of Montreal and Parks Canada have partnered with Eau-Logis to create an alternative-lodging site unlike any other in North America.

Village by the Locks, located on the Lachine Canal National Historic Site, will allow visitors to stay in one of three types of lodges that will offer a blend of camping and boating with remnants of the area’s industrial past.

Guests can spend the night on board a classic wooden boat, berthed in Basin 1 of the Lachine Canal; stay in a Lock Keeper’s Cottage, a micro-chalet designed as a small apartment with a full range of urban amenities (shower, kitchen, WiFi, etc); or spend the night in one of eight Parks Canada oTENTik units, which are a cross between a tent and a rustic cabin.

Campers who stay in the boats or the Lock Keeper’s Cottages will also have access to numerous accessories and equipment, which stand out for their singularity and rusticity. They are art objects from previous centuries, which have been at the bottom of the water, some for hundreds of years and from a rare collection. These pieces of art and the sights from the Lachine canal are just some of the ways people can absorb the history that took place in the Old Port.

Accommodations are available as of May 16 but reservations are being taken now.  Prices vary depending on season and the number of guests.
