New sports courses offered in N.D.G.

A company called Dynamo Sports Association is offering classes for children in rhythmic gymnastics and soccer, (both starting at age 3 ½), and in basketball, kickboxing and judo for kids 8 and up. There are also classes for adults in volleyball, basketball, soccer, fitness/stretching and kickboxing.

“The difference with our club is that we focus on teaching the technique of each sport,” said owner Svetlana Pokidina. “All our coaches (were) professional athletes.”

She said coaches know how to teach children what they would need to know to be competitive in each sport if they choose, but that most children participate at the recreational level.

Fees vary by sport and frequency: for example, an eight-week soccer program for children is $100 if a child goes once a week, $140 for twice a week.

Courses are held at 4099 Royal Ave., in N.D.G., in the building that houses Lower Canada College’s arena and gymnasium.

Pokidina says their website is under construction and should be ready by early 2013.
