A new athletics camp will be opening up in N.D.G. just in time for the warm weather. Run by local multi-sport coach and trainer Lerry Williams, the Monkland Summer Sports Camps will offer kids a broad selection of activities and games, as well as language courses and educational field trips.
Kids ages 7 to 17 will take part in team sports such as soccer, basketball, floor hockey and dodgeball. Older campers will also have the opportunity to be part of a leadership program, where they will assist counsellors with daily tasks and responsibilities.
Wanting his campers to not only work their bodies but their minds as well, Williams has hired tutors who will be providing English and French lessons to students several times a week. Children will be evaluated and placed into groups where they will be tutored in grammar, reading and writing. Along with the activities and linguistic courses, campers will go on educational excursions to places such as Old Montreal.
Williams has been working with kids and adults of all ages in the community for several years. He helps them build up their technical skills for sports like basketball and soccer, but also helps them with fitness and training.
The camp runs from June 29 to Aug. 7 at the Monkland Community Centre, 4410 Westhill Ave. The cost per week is $150 and a payment plan is available. For more information, call 438-828-6644 or the Monkland Community Centre at 514-872-8588.
