New magic shop opens in Ste. Anne de Bellevue

Abracadabra! Alakazam! Magic fans can now learn the basics or sharpen their skills at Todsky’s Magic shop, which opened in Ste. Anne de Bellevue on Nov. 17.

Run by magician Todd Shapiro, also known as The Amazing Todsky, the magic shop will offer workshops, lessons, gift bags and more for all ages and skill levels.

Group lessons for beginners will take place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and participants will learn card, coin, paper and elastic tricks. The group lessons cost $30 per hour but if you sign up for a series of eight classes, they will cost $25 each. Each lesson comes with the necessary material, such as card decks, ropes, etc.

There will also be private lessons for more serious magicians. The Amazing Todsky will focus on one or two aspects of magic, such as card tricks or mind-reading, and can help your child build his or her own magic show.

Children can choose from several loot bags in the store, or build their own. A basic loot bag costs $8 and comes with six items, including a magic wand, one packaged trick with instructions and materials, and other novelty items. The store also has books and DVDs that teach magic tricks.

The Amazing Todsky encourages children to drop in to the shop, as there are always magicians who are willing to share their tricks. He also offers a challenge for savvy tricksters: if you can show him a trick he can’t figure out, you’ll win a special gift.

Todsky’s Magic Shop is located on 42c Ste. Anne St. in Ste. Anne de Bellevue and is open from Wednesday through Sunday.
