If making sure your kids stay active is putting a damper on your fitness goals, a relatively new recreational facility may be able to help. Le R.E.C. room is a multipurpose gym in the West End of Montreal that offers classes parents and kids can take together (or they can take different courses but at the same time). Kids can also do art, science and music activities while their parent works out.
There’s no shortage of fitness options: personal training, mom and tot classes, programs for babies 6 months and up, boot camp, hip-hop for kids, and more. The facility allots periods of time for free play, where children can explore the centre’s gymnastics equipment, obstacle courses and more. The space can also be rented out for birthday parties.
On Dec. 20, there will be a free concert by Monkey Rock Music from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It is geared to kids of all ages and organizers ask that people who want to attend should email email@example.com.
During the two-week holiday period, it is offering a camp from Dec. 21 to 23 and 28 to 30 for kids ages 3 to 5. From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., kids will play games, do science experiments and art projects. There will also be various classes for kids and parents over the holidays. Registration can be done online and closes Dec. 16.
The 12-week winter session starts in January and features gymnastics, science and ceramic classes, among others.
For young kids, there is a “Fundamentals” course, which teaches them skills they will need to play various sports when they’re older. They play games to work on walking, jumping, balancing and even falling properly. There is also a superhero-themed class, where kids 3 to 6 can show up in costumes and climb like Spiderman or “fly” like Superman.
Le R.E.C. room is open Mondays to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and closed on Sundays for birthday parties. Winter session classes start the week of Jan. 9 and registration can be done online.
