New camp targets young yogis

It didn’t take long for Maria Kokinasidis, founder of Yoga Bear studio, to realize how many kids were interested in yoga classes. After developing a specialized class for her young yogis at her Cote St. Luc studio, she has now decided to take it one step further and offer kids an entire summer break of downward dogs and child’s poses.

“We love teaching kids,” Kokinasidis says. “There is always so much light when a child walks into the room eager to learn and try new positions.”

Yoga Academy Camp is designed to do just that. It will allow children the chance to stay active this summer and focus on enhancing their flexibility and core strength, as well as help them find balance and coordination.

Children ages 5 to 12, with or without experience, will participate in one to two yoga sessions per day. Other activities will include meditation, soccer and softball games, obstacle courses, pool time and theme days.

The camp runs from June 27 to Aug. 19 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. The fee for one week is $185, for two weeks is $330 and any additional week is $165. The camp offers childcare services for an additional rate of $15 in the morning and $15 in the afternoon. For more information, call 514-508-2327 or visit yogabear.ca/en_US.
