A new after-school and weekend activity centre for elementary-aged children has just opened up in the N.D.G. area. Peek-A-Boo, which occupies the former 4Cats Art Studio on the corner of Decarie Blvd. and N.D.G. Ave., offers a multitude of classes and workshops for kids between the ages of 3 and 12. With a background in child studies and daycare work, owner Milena Tzankov decided to open her own space with her husband Ross where kids could be active and pursue creative activities.
Little ones can explore their artistic side by painting, drawing, colouring and using clay during art workshops, as well as learn different kitchen techniques in cooking classes. During the one-hour sessions, kids 5 and up will make muffins, cupcakes, salads and other meals while learning how to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.
For toddlers 3 to 5, there will be storytelling with puppets and an activity. Yoga classes and games will also be available for children 5 to 8, while older kids can try out meditation. There will also be special art workshops once a month for families. On Nov. 19 at 11 a.m., the artistic and creative director of Hartia Toys will lead a class on how to design and make animal-themed toys out of paper. The workshop costs $20 per person and is geared to those 6 and over.
On Sunday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m., La Biscuiterie de Montreal will teach kids how to decorate their own cookies for the holidays. Each child will bring home three decorated cookies. The cost is $25.
A drop-in daycare service is available between 9 a.m. and noon on weekdays for one hour sessions, and although the centre is closed on Sundays, it can cater to special requests like birthday parties. Art classes cost $20 per session, while cooking, yoga and storytelling costs $15.
Peek-A-Boo is located at 3857 Decarie Blvd.
