Music festival offers kid-friendly activities
Parents can enjoy live music while their children participate in kid-friendly activities during POP Montreal’s annual music festival, taking place Sept. 26-30. There will be many free events held on Sept. 29 and 30 at various locations in Montreal’s Mile End.
On Sept. 29, kids can kick off the day with a storytime session at La Petite Librarie Drawn & Quarterly from 11 a.m. until noon. Writer and illustrator Marianne Dubuc will read her book, Up the Mountain Path in English and French. The storytelling session will be followed by a scavenger hunt.
The Kids POP Crawl will take place from noon until 2 p.m. The crawl will start at Clubhouse POP, where participants will get a map and receive stamps for each location they visit. They will then decorate windows at Annex Vintage, make their own stickers at Escape POP and create their own buttons at Monastiraki. At Clubhouse POP, they will write and sing their own song with Lederhosen Lucille, and blow giant bubbles.
The You-Video Extravaganza will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Cinema Moderne. Kids will have until Sept. 27 to submit their own YouTube-style videos, which can be created using an iPhone or video camera, to kids@popmontreal.com. The videos will be projected on the big screen at the theatre and families can enjoy popcorn while they watch.
On Sept. 30, animator Nate Yaffe will host the Air Mattress Labyrinth at Clubhouse POP from noon until 2 p.m. All ages are welcome to help build a giant fort. There will be 30 blow-up mattresses and participants are encouraged to bring their own blankets and pillows.
A family-style talent show will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the Piccolo Rialto theatre. Rehearsals start at noon. Kids who want to participate can send videos and performances ideas to kids@popmontreal.com by Sept. 27.
