Montreal’s Olympic Park in summer

Built for the 1976 Olympics, Montreal’s Olympic Park and the Montreal Tower (the highest leaning tower in the world) make up one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. True to its athletic roots, it hosts numerous sporting events during the year and has a sports centre with a pool, weight room and classes open to the public. However, during the summer months a whole slew of other activities take place in the neighbourhood. Here are a few to put on your to-do list!

For those with a head for heights, try the Exalto urban acrobatic park. With 21 obstacles and a zip line, it’s the first park of its kind in North America. Tennis players will be happy to know the Big O also boasts a mini tennis centre that features a pint-sized court and equipment tailored for kids that is free to rent.

You can also catch a ride on a tourist shuttle bicycle – Velopousse Maisonneuve offers a unique way to discover the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area. It costs $20 for adults and $10 for children, but there are special rates for families.

Food lovers rejoice: every first Friday of the month from May to October, food trucks congregate at the Olympic Stadium, and in addition to all the yummy treats there’s live music.

Don’t miss the garden at the Sun Life Financial Esplanade, where fruits, vegetables, flowers, and sweet herbs grow. There you can find workshops on gardening, composting, seeding, and so much more.

And if none of those activities are appealing to you, the Biodome, Planetarium, Botanical Gardens, Insectarium and Saputo Stadium, home of the Montreal Impact soccer team, are just a stone’s throw away.
