Lower Canada College – Christopher Shannon
LOWER CANADA COLLEGE
Christopher Shannon, Head of School
Since joining LCC in 2005, my focus has been on creating abundant opportunities for our students, enhancing our strong sense of community and further developing the exceptional resources that make our school unique. All of this has been with the sole objective of fostering the academic and personal growth of our students, keeping them engaged and allowing them to try new things and stretch their boundaries.
We are living in times of rapid and dramatic change. For me, it is an exciting responsibility to help our students become globally minded learners and develop the skills they need to be successful in school and beyond. My goal is to lead a school that opens its doors to the world so that students can be exposed to diverse perspectives and different ways of thinking and living.
I went into education because it is an extraordinary career. Every day, I am inspired by bright and creative young people who always surprise and impress me. I feel it is a real privilege to work in the field, which is how I know I made the right choice.
Among his many achievements Christopher Shannon earned degrees from Queen’s University (B.A.), Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales – University of Geneva (Masters in International Affairs), and Brock University (M.Ed. – Administration). Mr. Shannon implemented the international student exchange and Duke of Edinburgh programs at LCC and, under his leadership, it became the only English high school in Quebec to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. Mr. Shannon served as a member of the board of governors with CAIS from 2010-2015 and is currently part of the QAIS executive. In 2012, Mr. Shannon was awarded Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Award. He is the father of two children, who are both LCC graduates.
