Parents who would like to learn more about camping can take a workshop and do a one-night trial run on June 16, 2012. This Learn-to-Camp program, sponsored by Parks Canada and Mountain Equipment Coop, will take place at the Fort Lennox National Historical Park on the South Shore as well as at the Lachine Canal National Historic Site in Montreal. Participants will learn all the skills needed for a successful camping trip including how to set up a tent and cook delicious meals outdoors. There will also be additional family activities specific to each site. At Fort Lennox, families will have a night-time tour of the site. The Lachine Canal program includes canoe rides and access to concerts at the Montreal Folk Festival. Cost for a family (or group) of four people is $88, which includes the campsite, evening snack, breakfast, introduction to camping workshops and various activities. You can rent a tent if necessary. To reserve your spot at Fort Lennox, call (450) 291-5700. To reserve a spot at the Lachine canal, call (514) 524-9225 or visit the website.
