Debate Camp Canada is a national organization that teaches kids how to be strong public speakers and to master debating skills. This summer, it is offering a summer camp in Montreal.
The program is geared to kids of all levels of ability; campers will develop skills in structuring a good debate, refutation and counterpoints, effective delivery, stance, summary points and teamwork.
The Montreal day camp runs from July 4 to 8 at Trafalgar School, 3495 Simpson Ave. There are 50 spaces for students in Grades 5 to 9 and 20 for experienced debaters in Grades 9 to 11. The program will be tailored according to camper age and ability. It costs $445 for the week, including hot lunches, resources and a debate camp guidebook.
There is also a six-night overnight camp that will run from Aug. 7 to 13 at Stanstead College in the Eastern Townships. It costs $975 for the week and $75 for the shuttle bus to and from the camp.
