A production office in the heart of Montreal’s South-West borough will help make your child’s filmmaking dreams come true this fall. From Sept. 1 to Oct. 15, Dompark Complex in Ville-Emard will welcome the Michel Gondry Home Movie Factory, a social project that provides all the necessary tools to make your own 5- to 10-minute movies free of charge.

Participants will have access to 12 film sets, props, costumes, cameras and more to help bring their ideas to life during a three-hour session. In the first hour, groups will write scripts and delegate roles with the help of the staff. Then, they will shoot their movies on the various sets, including cafés, antique shops and a re-creation of Atwater market.

Once the three-hour session is up, the movies will be screened in private projection rooms, and filmmakers will receive a copy to bring home.

The project was created by French filmmaker Michel Gondry with the aim of making the filmmaking process more accessible to the public. Whether you’re an avid filmmaker or new to the craft, all levels of experience are welcome, including children over the age of 5.

Groups must register in advance and comprise 15 people (smaller numbers will be asked to join another group).

This movie factory has made stops in Japan, New York and France, and is making its Canadian debut in Montreal to celebrate the city’s 375th anniversary.

Michel Gondry will be at the grand opening at Dompark Complex (5524 St. Patrick St.) on Sept. 1 to talk about the project and interact with guests.
