The Actors’ Studio at John Rennie High School will be presenting Act Like a Man as their spring production on April 16 and 17 in Pointe Claire.
The comedic play is set in a time where women are not allowed to act. However, Princess Cordelia’s chambermaid Juliet defies the order by donning a moustache and changing her name to Romeo. She eventually earns the lead role in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, but things get complicated when Princess Cordelia falls in love with “Romeo.”
“[The play] has it all: aesthetics, romance, surprises, revenge, cross-dressing and even a little Shakespeare!” says Nicolas Doyon, program director and playwright.
The Actors’ Studio program is made up of 60 student actors and technicians in grades 9 to 11 who put on two large-scale productions each year.
There will be two evening shows starting at 7:30 p.m. both days. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for students and seniors and can be purchased at the door or reserved online and picked up the night of the play.
The Louise Chalmers Theatre is at John Rennie, 501 St. Jean Blvd. in Pointe Claire.
