Kiarash Nakhost, IDD Teacher Kiarash was an IDD student – here is his story

In 2003 Kiarash left Iran and came to Canada. Montreal was meant to be a starting point for him. His plan was to eventually move on… He has never left. Instead he enrolled in French classes. Then, building on the English he had learned while studying architecture at University in Iran, Kiarash registered for English classes at Place Cartier Adult Education Centre in Beaconsfield. One day, while discussing his interest in decorating and design with a classmate, he learned about the Interior Decorating and Visual Display (IDD) program offered at Lester B. Pearson School Board. With his improved English language skills, Kiarash decided to register for the IDD program. Sixteen months later he graduated from the program and was offered a job at the company where he had done his stage.

Over time, Kiarash maintained a connection with his teachers and, when he was ready for new career challenges, they were a support to him. Wishing to tap into the more creative side of design, he eventually decided to freelance. Still in communication with his teachers from the program, he was asked if he would be interested in teaching. He started substitute teaching on occasion and today he is a full-time teacher in the IDD program and a valuable member of the team at Sources Adult and Career Centre. His creativity continues to inspire students who, like him, have a passion for decorating. Tap into your creativity.
