How to correct poor behaviour and improve social skills

An upcoming conference aims to give parents and educators the tools they need to cope with children’s behavioural and social challenges.

On April 22, the 2018 Parent Conference: Tool Box for Success, organized by the Montreal Centre for Learning Disabilities, offers a full-day program with in-depth information on a variety of topics, including bullying, adolescence, reducing anxiety and anger in children with ADHD, feeding picky eaters, managing ADHD medication, improving school success and living with ADHD.

Since its creation in the 1960s, The Montreal Centre for Learning Disabilities has offered information, promoted awareness and provided programs for families coping with learning disabilities, ADHD, and mild ASD.

Conference sessions include:

1. The Bully Dynamic: Keeping Our Children Safe – Eva de Gosztonyi MA.

2. Demystifying the Adolescent Journey – Catherine Korah, Psychotherapist

3. Reducing Anxiety and Anger in Children & Adolescents with ADHD, LD & Mild ASD: The Heart-Brain Connection – Linda Aber Nurtured Heart, Theraplay & HeartMath Anxiety Reduction Practitioner

4. The Art and Science of Feeding a Family: Nutritional Strategies for Picky Eaters & Special Needs Kids – Naureen Hanauni, Registered Dietitian & Family Nutritionist

5. What Parents Need to Know About ADHD Medication Management –  Dr. Lily Hechtman, Pediatric Psychiatrist & ADHD Researcher

6. But the Dog Ate My Homework: Strategies for School Success – Robin Bernstein, ADHD coach

7. Personal Stories: Living With ADHD/LD – The MCLD Ambassadors

Seating for some workshops is limited, so organizers recommend registering early. Tickets are $65 for individuals or $115 for couples. There will be a continental breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. (included in admission price).

The program runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Ruby Foo’s Hotel at 7655 Decarie Blvd. Free parking is available.
