There was so much snow this winter, my husband and I decided our family of four needed a change of scenery. We would have loved to pack our bags and head to Cuba, but that was not financially feasible. Instead, we opted to go to Quebec City and stay at Hotel Quebec, which came highly recommended by a friend who has a young family.
We booked a two-night stay in a suite that came with a full kitchen and a balcony overlooking an indoor pool. Rich foliage, an abundance of greenery and a cascading waterfall surrounded the pool. It was our little paradise. And best of all, there were lots of activities to keep our daughters Kathrina, 4, and Cecilia, 2, busy.
In the morning, we leisurely prepared breakfast in the kitchen and then, still wearing our pyjamas, sat on the balcony and enjoyed a quiet meal while taking in the beautiful surroundings. It was a great way to ease into a busy day.
After breakfast, it was time to hit the pool. My husband’s favourite retreat was the Jacuzzi, while Kathrina favoured the indoor aquatic play area full of fountains and splash pads. When the kids had enough pool time, it was off to the indoor playground, an impressive maze of tunnels and slides.
For lunch we went to the kid-friendly restaurant, and then watched a fire-eating and trapeze show. During Cecilia’s nap, my husband went back to the pool with Kathrina. I sat on the balcony, watched my husband and Kathrina have fun and relaxed with a cup of tea and a good book.
Between the theatre that played kids’ movies all day, the arts & crafts and the arcade rooms, the girls were so busy, that come bedtime, they were exhausted and fell asleep easily. Then my husband and I had a quiet evening sitting on the balcony, sipping wine and looking at the beautiful view. With all that, who needs Cuba?
