If you are looking for a way to have a fun fall day with the family, get some exercise and support a great cause, mark your calendar for the afternoon of Oct. 6.

At 1 p.m. on that day, the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre (WICWC) will be hosting a Hero Run, a five-kilometre fundraising family walk/run around Kirkland. Children, or children at heart, are invited to dress up as their favourite super hero.

This charity offers care and support to anyone experiencing cancer – whether he or she has cancer or is supporting a loved one who is ill.  All its programs and services are free and focus on supporting emotional, physical and spiritual needs to complement traditional medical practices.

“Cancer impacts the entire family,” said Debbie Magwood, Founder and Executive Director of the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre. “This fundraiser is special because it allows families to band together to be heroes for those living with cancer. I am looking forward to being with all the cancer wellness superheroes.”

The starting line will be behind Super C at 3700 St. Charles Blvd., in Kirkland. The race will continue on a pedestrian path past Holleufer Park and participants will turn around at Snair Rd.
