Harry Potter & friends live on in new play
Having withdrawal from the magical world of Harry Potter? Good news, the next instalment of the saga is being released on July 31 worldwide. Families can head to Livres Babar Books in Pointe-Claire for the release party of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two starting at 9 p.m. on July 30.
The bookstore will be set up like Honeydukes, the legendary wizarding sweets shop famous for its chocolate and wonderful candy. Children can taste the candy that would be found at a Honeydukes and honey beer will be available for adults.
There will also be adapted Quidditch games, the beloved sport at Hogwarts. Although there won’t be any wizards or witches riding flying broomsticks, kids can enjoy an arts and crafts session where they can make magical wands. And when they finally get their hands on the play, everyone can take part in a cold reading of the script.
The eighth story in the series is a play written by Jack Thorne that brings author J.K. Rowling’s world of wizards and witches back to life. It is set 19 years after the last book about the much-loved character and his friends Ron and Hermione. The play, split into two parts, follows the three friends into adulthood, with Potter now described as an overworked Ministry of Magic employee, coping with his youngest son’s (Albus) struggle with his famous family legacy.
The party will take place in Pointe-Claire village at 46 Ste. Anne St., #2.
Admission is free, but the book costs $40.
