Guided Tour: Murray Hill Park
Murray Hill Park
Address: Between Côte St. Antoine on the south side and Westmount Ave. on the north side. (View map)
Even if you don’t live in Westmount, you’re probably acquainted with its landmark Westmount Park, located right on Sherbrooke St. It’s a beautiful spot, but there’s another super children’s park that’s a little off the beaten track. Murray Hill Park (aka King George Park) spans a slope between Côte St. Antoine on the south side and Westmount Ave. on the north side. If you turn south off Westmount Ave. onto Belmont, you’ll find a small parking lot. If that’s full, troll surrounding streets.
Murray Hill Park has a playground, wading pool, tennis courts, a basketball net, dog run and an on-site chalet with public bathrooms. Aside from having great facilities, it’s one of the most scenic parks in the downtown area. The grassy hill is just begging for kids to roll and run down it. There’s a grey stone lookout for a great view of the city.
It’s also covered by a canopy of lush trees and weeping willows, so there’s lots of shade on sunny days. Close to the playground area is a small pond, where kids can look for bugs and frogs. This is a good place to bring a picnic lunch, or prepare to walk a block or so down to Sherbrooke St. to find food.
