Montreal Families

Fundraiser to support kids with cancer

The annual Splash and Dash swimming and running relay will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012

The event is the main fundraiser for the Sarah Cook Fund of the Cedars Cancer Institute for Children and supports the Montreal Children’s Hospital’s treatment of children with cancer. It was founded in 2001 by Sarah Cook, who was at the time an 8-year-old girl undergoing treatment for Ewing’s Sarcoma. It typically raises more than $100,000 each year. Teams of three people compete in swimming and running relay races of different lengths, depending on their age and ability.

If you would like to support this event but don’t want to do the relay, there is also a family fun component, featuring an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, a DJ and yoga for kids. The minimum entrance donation is $10 per person or $20 per family (free for relay participants). The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the McGill University Sports Complex, 475 Pine Ave. W.
