Free program helps improve literacy skills
In an increasingly digital world, one skill will never become obsolete – literacy. Parents are at the forefront of teaching their children literacy skills, which include not only the ability to read and write but also to express thoughts and interpret ideas, among other things.
ABC Life Literacy Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Canadians improve their literacy skills, teamed up with HSBC bank to create the HSBC Family Literacy First program.
Each of the seven modules is made up of a story, a glossary, a set of questions and activities such as a craft, all designed to help parents and children of all ages and literacy levels.
There is also a facilitator’s guide, which helps whoever is doing the teaching (parents, community leaders, teachers) deliver the program. The materials are free and come in English, French, Simplified Chinese and Tagalog, new this year.
In order to download the materials, which come in PDF format, you must register for an account on the program’s website.
