Four U.S. ski resorts offer discounts or at-par pricing

Jay Peak Resort

Jay Peak, located in Vermont, was the first supporter of the loonie at par back in the 1980s. The resort has 79 trails with many options for first-timers and experts alike.

With proof of residency, the resort accepts Canadian cash at par for lift tickets, day passes to the Pump House Indoor Waterpark, Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Trails, Nordic and Learn-To-Skate lessons, and equipment rentals on property.

At the resort retail shops and dining outlets, Canadian currency is accepted but with exchange rates applied. Credit card lodging deposits of 50 per cent that are reserved online will be charged in U.S. funds, but you can pay the balance in Canadian cash at par upon check-in.

Canadians can also purchase a season pass for Jay Peak at par, either in cash at the resort (proof of residency is required), or by mailing in a cheque and application form. The pass will give you access to extra discounts on lessons, water park access and cheaper lift tickets at nine different mountains, including Pats Peak, NH, Wintergreen Resort, VA and Shawnee Peak, ME. Click here for more information about its at-par policy.

Titus Family Ski Centre

Titus Family Ski Centre offers a variety of options including discounted lift tickets, an overnight stay and coupons for tubing, lessons and rentals.

Located in Malone, NY, about a two-hour drive south of Montreal, the family-friendly resort features 50 trails and glades over three interconnected mountains, as well as a two-lane tubing hill accessed by 10 lifts. 15 of the trails are open for night skiing. Visitors can also enjoy live music every weekend during ski season.

For the winter 2019-2020 season, the ski centre is offering Canadians a $25 gift card that can be used used toward a season pass (that begin at $149) or for any purchase on the resort, such as for food and beverages or at their clothing store.

The resort has announced an expansion of its area for tubing for this season, as it has become more popular at the Ski Centre. The newly-constructed tubing park has steeper runs that are 800-feet long. The runs are also wider, so they are now able to lodge double tubes that hold two people at a time. And once the tubers reached the bottom of the mountain, they don’t have to walk back up the mountain, the 550-foot conveyor magic carpet lift will do the hiking for them. The park is set to launch around U.S. Thanksgiving.

Kids can take private lessons or practice balancing on skis with a parent in the Titus Teddy Learning Area, which has a magic carpet lift. The learning slopes also include regular visits from cheery mascots Titus Teddy and Shredding Betty.

The mountain offers three terrain parks. The Little Tikes Park is designed for kids who are just learning how to ride the rails while the Live Mas Park offers an assortment of jibs and jumps for more advanced skiers and snowboarders. A third park, Mo’s Stash, is never groomed. Its all-natural rails and jumps emerge organically from the mountain itself.

Three eateries are available slope side and there is an area for families who prefer to bring their own lunch. There is also a ski tune-up and repair shop, as well as equipment rentals. Visitors can take advantage of the resort’s Ski and Stay packages, where a 25 per cent discount is applied if you book a room stay and lift ticket together as a Ski and Stay package.

Smugglers’ Notch

Smugglers’ Notch, located about an hour and a half from Montreal, recently added a ski- and snowboarding learning area for children ages 3-6. The 2020 annual Ski Magazine survey voted Smugglers the number one family-friendly resort in the Eastern U.S. and Canada.

For the winter 2019 season, Smugglers’ Notch is offering its Canadian guests 25 per cent off vacation packages, which expires on Dec. 31, 2019. The resort offers several Smugglers’ winter vacation packages. The base package includes condominium lodging, daily lift tickets, snow tubing, access to the Nordic cross country ski and snowshoe trails, heated pool and hot tubs, guided winter walking, and daily family activities.

In addition, all packages are backed by the Smugglers’ family fun guarantee: if anyone enrolled in a learn-to-ski or snowboard program does not enjoy it, the resort will refund the entire program fee.
