The Spanish dance form flamenco, with its colourful costumes and rhythmic sounds, will come alive for children this fall thanks to Lina Moros, who will offer co-ed children’s classes at Studio Mon Tango, 5588 A Sherbrooke St. W., in N.D.G.
Moros, a pioneer in flamenco, says children eagerly embrace this dance form with its emphasis on handclapping and foot stomping. They also learn how to communicate nonverbally with a partner and to carry themselves with confidence.
Sessions begin Tuesday, October 4 and will last for 10 weeks. Classes for children ages 4-6 (with a parent) will take place from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and cost $150. Classes for children ages 7-12 run from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and cost $100. Children are asked to wear comfortable pants, T-shirts, and shoes with a small heel (dress or party shoes). They should bring a small, portable, percussive instrument (tambourine, maracas, or something as simple as a plastic water bottle with grains of rice or beans).
