Fete des enfants de Montreal to be tied into Week-ends du monde event

There are big changes in store for La fete des Enfants de Montreal this summer. The annual, fun-filled weekend celebration for children 12 and under will be integrated into Week-ends du Monde, an event that celebrates various cultures through dance, food, and music.

The scaled-down version of this kids’ party will take place on July 4-5 and July 11-12. On those days, families can enjoy interactive shows, workshops and entertainment geared towards young audiences between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Parc jean Drapeau. “This year, it will be over four days instead of two, so if you can’t come the first weekend you still have the option of making it the second weekend,” says Martine Venne, spokesperson for Parc Jean-Drapeau.

On July 4, Arthur l’Adventurier will take the stage, followed by child entertainer Krystine, who will invite the audience to participate in song and dance activities. The next day Kalimba will perform a musical drum show and gumboot dance, a South African dance where the sound of the boots striking the floor acts as a form of percussion. Atlas GeoCircus will also be there to amaze spectators with gravity-defying stunts, and the following weekend visitors can catch activities presented by the Montreal Complètement Cirque festival.

In addition, throughout both weekends there will be a percussion group offering kids and their parents free drum workshops. There will also be face painting and brightly-costumed animators mingling with the crowd. “The park’s regular activities are still open – the beach, aquatic complex, park for kids – and the shows that are integrated into the Week-ends du monde are all free so I think it’s a great opportunity for families to come and enjoy the outdoors,” Venne says.

After 5 p.m., programming will be geared towards adults, with the festivities capping off around 11 p.m. The complete program will be on the Parc Jean Drapeau website mid-June.
