Festive activities at firefighter festival

Laval’s Grande Fête des Pompiers is back, with a weekend filled with family-friendly activities highlighting the importance of fire safety and prevention.

The 11th edition of the festival will run from June 2 to 4 at Centropolis. There will be a parade of vintage fire trucks, live music and entertainment, a kid zone with a mini farm, inflatables, and fire safety activities. Kids can participate in an obstacle course, dress up like firefighters, and learn how to handle water hoses.

Firefighters will explain how they handle various dangerous situations, including a demonstration of how to make your way out of a burning building and a walk through of how they save victims in traffic collisions. There will also be sessions for kids and adults on how to perform CPR and examples of new camera and recording technologies used in rescue missions. Information booths on site will provide information on fire safety and local resources.

Visitors can sign up online for a two km, five km, 10 km, or 21.1 km race and, for the first time, a 42.2 km marathon on Sunday. Also new this year is the option to tackle a five km race on Friday night.

Admission to the festival is free but there are registration fees for the races. Proceeds will benefit the Fondation des pompiers de Québec. Centropolis is located at 1799 Pierre-Péladeau Ave. For more information, visit laval.ca/grande-fete-pompiers.
