Fashion parties let kids show their flair
When Debby Tavares’s sister was having a hard time coming up with an idea for her daughter Maika’s 11th birthday party, she decided to help out. Tavares, a professional stylist in Montreal, knew she and her niece shared the same affinity for fashion so she decided to throw her a fashion-themed party.
The party was such a hit that Tavares was inspired to start a party service so that other kids could enjoy a similar experience. Eight months later, the Little Fashion Workshop was born — a custom party service that offers a variety of packages for children aged 6 to 12. The event starts off with a fashion trend presentation (for tweens) who get the lowdown from a stylist on the latest trends for the upcoming season. Those who are younger play a “fashion run” game — think relay race but with clothing accessories.
Afterwards, guests become clothing designers and create graphic T-shirts using tools such as fabric markers, watercolour, tie-dye, custom images and more. Once everyone has finished, the red carpet is rolled out as the mini designers take turns showing off their new creations. The activities last about an hour and a half and cost $89.95 for up to six children plus the fashion DIY kit starting at $79.95.
Tavares also offers some extras, such as a selfie photo booth with props for $24.95, as well as fashion-themed sweets, décor and additional designing tools.
