Whether you’re a rookie, a seasoned veteran, or looking to introduce the kids to running, the first edition of the Trail du Mont-Rigaud this fall will have something for every member of the family.

This trail-running event located west of Montreal has distances of one, five, 10, and 21 kilometres. Depending on the distance, runners will traverse some of the mountain’s most popular trails, and experience the difficulty of some lesser-known technical and rocky sections. The event will take place on Saturday October 23, 2021. Registration opened May 4 and spaces are filling up quickly. While the one km family course has no limit to the number of participants, the three other distances have a maximum capacity.

It’s never too early to start our kids living a healthy lifestyle, so the one km course is an easy introduction for kids and families or those who are new to running. Walk or run, but most of all, have fun!

Five km walk or run
A course through the forest for both beginners and advanced. The route leads to the Mont-Rigaud cross on the summit where runners will have a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside.

10km
Participants will follow the same course as the five-kilometre run, as well as continuing to the Mont-Rigaud ski centre and mountain bike trails before returning to the start. Of the races presented, the 10km offers the greatest distance/elevation ratio.

21km
A forest course for longer distance trail enthusiasts. After completing the ascent to the cross, runners will continue on the popular Escapade trails before the return to the college.

For runners who wish to walk or run the one km course with their children and also participate in one of the longer distances, times will be staggered so that they can do both. Each participant will receive a medal, and there are category medals for the five, 10, and 21km distances.

The event is the vision of Philippe Bertrand, Co-Organizer and Managing Director of Collège Bourget and former coach of the national Triathlon team, and Sebastien Corbeil, owner of RX1 Nation that organizes and produces sporting events and races. “It was a dream of mine and Phillippe Bertrand to show the beautiful trails that Rigaud has to offer,” Corbeil said. “We value family, inclusion, and nature. Let us show it to you all.”

A portion of the profits will be donated to the Bourget College Foundation, which funds education programs for the students.

Location: Bourget College, 65 St. Pierre St., Rigaud
