Fair celebrates English-language books

Do you have a bookworm in your house? Looking for gift ideas for the holidays? Montreal’s Holiday Pop-Up Book Fair invites book lovers to celebrate English-language books by Quebec authors at its two-day event on Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1.

Fun for the whole family, there will be a large variety of genres featured and hundreds of new titles to choose from, including novels, history books, mysteries, fantasies, graphic novels and children’s books.

Kids can visit Livres Babar Kids’ Book Nook, which will feature books and fun activity kits led by an animator. There will be hot chocolate and juice for young readers.

On Saturday, local authors will read excerpts from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and there will be a wine and cheese event with award-winning author Sean Michaels from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Sunday, come see some of Montreal’s best improv performers turn non-fiction stories into hilarious comedy skits from 3 p.m.  to 4 p.m., and on both days of the fair, visitors can take part in guided tours of the Mordecai Richler Reading Room from 11 a.m. to noon.

There will be discussion panels, book launches, and the chance to meet and talk to many Quebec authors, publishers, and fellow bibliophiles.

The event is free and will be held in the atrium of the McConnell Building at Concordia University from  on 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
