Montreal Families

Exporail is Canada’s railway museum dedicated to preserving and presenting Canada’s rich railway history. Visitors will feel like they’ve been transported into an old-fashioned rail station as they stroll through the Grand Gallery’s themed platforms and hop on and off historic trains and automobiles in the Angus Pavilion.

From there, visitors can continue down the Discovery Trail, taking in the railway station’s gardens, before ending up in the open storage area which contains more than 20 vehicles, including a gigantic steam locomotive with two-meter wheels.

Youngsters can enjoy the Little Railroaders’ Car, an 1913 Canadian Pacific Railway baggage car that has been transformed into an interactive play station. They can also watch The Rocky Mountain Express, which takes audiences on a train ride through the Canadian Rockies and explores the history of Canada’s first transcontinental railway.

If you visit in the summer, Exporail invites all to come onboard its outdoor passenger train and streetcar for a short ride around the museum.  The museum also hosts a miniature train exhibition built by Exporail volunteers and the Montreal Railroad Modelers Association.
