Dorval unveils new community and aquatics centre

There’s a new place in the West Island for those looking to work up a sweat or swim some laps – the Dorval Aquatic Centre is set to open in late August or early September.

Located on Dawson Ave., it features a 25-metre pool, a pool with a water slide and a wading pool, as well as a double gymnasium for basketball, badminton and volleyball. There is also a multi-purpose room for aerobics and other fitness classes.

Dorval only had one indoor pool, at Dorval Jean XXIII high school, which is next door to the new centre. After it opens, that pool will be demolished.

The project cost about $20 million, including a $5 million subsidy from the provincial government. There will be programming available for the whole family, including swimming and aerobics classes for adults and kid-friendly Zumba, Tae-Kwon-Do, judo and jiu jitsu classes.

The fall session will begin Sept. 8 for the fitness courses and Sept. 19 for all aquatic courses. Registration for Dorval fall activities begins Aug. 17 for residents and Aug. 21 for non-residents.
