Dollard des Ormeaux splash pad larger-than-life

I’m not a huge fan of spiders (ok, not at all) but at Dollard-des-Ormeaux’s Westminster Park, I’ll happily stand underneath the GIANT blue spider that’s the focus of the park’s huge splash pad, because ya, it’s that cool.

Opened in the summer of 2019, the park’s hotly-anticipated aquatic play space is a hit with local families and visitors who come to chill out in the row of lounge chairs, enjoy a picnic at the nearby tables, and dance under the larger-than-life legs of the impressive arachnid.

With interactive water products from Pointe-Claire based company Vortex, there’s a ton to entertain both big and little kids. And who am I kidding, parents are going to want to get in on the splashing action too. One popular feature is the bobbing wobbly ball that’s fun to dunk and spin, or play with the lineup of sprayers on another feature and try turning the spinner that’s below.

There are also ships’ bows, a cute octopus whose wiggly tentacles reach out of the ground, gentle sprays, a huge anchor, and a very  unique “wave” to sit on for a break or to toddle down.  There are different water zones so make sure to press both sensors to turn everything on. The water is on a timer and will shut off on its own.

The splash pad area is located adjacent to the main playground where you’ll find a couple of play structures and a new sway boat that’s wheelchair-accessible. The rest of the large park features tennis courts, a baseball diamond, soccer fields, another small playground, a lovely grass hill to roll down, and a municipal pool (membership required).

THINGS TO NOTE:

  • The playground is on sand and while there is the fun boat pictured above, there is no other equipment that is accessible to wheelchair users.
  • While the splash pad is in full sun, the picnic tables are covered in shade sails and the park has areas with mature trees.
  • A drinking fountain is located beside the chalet.
