Have you ever wanted to write a letter to your future self? Now you can with a new postal service that will lock your messages in a vault for the next 25 years.

Since May, the non-profit organization MTL375 has hosted a ton of events as part of a series of celebrations for Montreal’s big anniversary, and the fun continues throughout September.

Two neighbourhood events, Les Postes du futur and Neighbourhood Treasure Hunts will take place in September. Les Postes du futur allows adults and kids to write a letter that will only be opened in 25 years, just in time for Montreal’s 400th birthday party in 2042.

Every weekend this summer, a postal truck has been stationed in one of Montreal’s 19 borough parks for 24 hours. Postcards have been handed out and people have a full day to write something and return them. The postcards will be preserved in the vaults of the Pointe-â-Callière Museum until 2042, when they will be sent back to the address supplied by the writer.

If the truck in your borough leaves before you have returned your postcard, you can always return it to another park on another weekend.

Sending the letters has become a popular activity among families and children. The service provides a unique opportunity for all ages to imagine their future. Parents can write to their children and vice versa, or writers can offer their future selves advice.

Trucks will be stationed at Wilfred-Bastien Park in St. Leonard on Sept. 2 and 3, at Parc La Fontaine in Plateau-Mont-Royal on Sept. 9 and 10 and at Parc des Faubourgs in Ville-Marie on Sept. 16 and 17.

Meanwhile, the Neighbourhood Treasure Hunts aim to help Montrealers engage with their communities and discover hidden parts of the city. Adults and children can participate in the search parties that kick off in borough parks and end with a tour of the city.

The treasure hunts will take place at Wilfred-Bastien Park in St. Leonard on Sept. 2 & 3 and at Parc des Faubourgs on Sept. 16 & 17.
