T-Era Models Canada is launching a six-week program that will teach young girls the basics of modelling and pageantry. Geared towards 12- to 18-year-old girls, the course comprises six workshops on everything from walking a runway, posing in front of a camera, and branding yourself on social media.
The course was created by Mrs. Ontario Globe Classic 2017 Lynn Gauvreau to provide aspiring young models and pageant hopefuls with the techniques they need to be successful in those industries.
“We want to be able to help girls understand that they won’t always make it, but that the tools they will learn are important for life,” Gauvreau says.
Beginning on Oct. 1, the workshops will be held every Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the San Tropez Dance Studio in the West Island. Each week will focus on a different set of skills.
Students will learn how to improve their posture through breathing and yoga exercises as well as proper skin, makeup and hygiene routines, how to read scripts and act for commercials, how to dress for their body types, and more.
Once the course is complete, students will participate in a graduation fashion show held at the dance studio, on Nov. 26 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students will model clothes from a Canadian clothing company and show off what they have learned. Awards will be handed out.
The course also offers an optional photo shoot with a high-fashion photographer for an additional fee. Participants will learn basic posing techniques, and receive a headshot and comp card.
The course costs $395 (or six weekly payments of $55 following a $65 deposit). Classes will be held every Sunday until Nov. 6. Spaces are limited.
Parents can meet with instructors, go over the course outline, and register their children during an open house held at the dance studio on Sept. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
