Country charm shines at the Ormstown Fair
City folks can revel in the fun of an old-fashioned country fair, complete with farm animals, homecooked food, live music and thrill-inducing carnival rides, at the Ormstown Fair, held from June 9-12, 2011 in the town of Ormstown, about an hour’s drive southwest of Montreal.
First started in 1910, the Fair continues to delight families with its all-ages programming, including an opening day parade (this year’s theme is “Exploring Our Roots”) as well as a petting zoo, baked good contests, equestrian events and even a pig round-up!
Families can purchase a four-day pass for $50 (until May 15, after that the price is $65) offering admission to everything but the midway rides for two adults and two children ages 6-12. Day passes are also available.
The Fair site includes a special “Family Centre,” offering free games, hands-on exhibits and a quiet corner for some downtime. The centre was awarded the “Best Family-Oriented Activity” prize by the Association des Expositions Agricoles du Quebec in 2010.
