Conference offers insight into learning disabilities and behaviour issues
The Montreal Centre for Learning Disabilities will hold a parenting conference on April 23 to help parents understand and support children with mental health issues.
The Tool Box for Success Conference will feature experts in behaviour and learning disabilities. Some of the topics include understanding and managing teens with attention deficit disorder or oppositional defiant disorder, led by clinical and forensic psychologist Abe Worenklein.
Psychologist Deborah Schwartzman will explain what parents can do to help their kids deal with anxiety, including helping them face their fears and teaching them how to relax.
Other speakers include Canadian comedian Joey Elias, who will share his personal struggles with anxiety, and school psychologist Marlene Desjardins, who will explain what executive functioning is and how it affects learning.
There will also be an exhibitor room where parents can get more information on services and specialized schools like Centennial Academy, Babar Books Inc., the Hudson Literacy Clinic and the Montreal Fluency Centre.
An individual ticket costs $65 and an additional ticket for a second parent is $57.50. A light breakfast will be served. The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Ruby Foo’s Hotel, 7655 Decarie Blvd.
