Concert and circus show geared to young kids
On May 15, experience the thrill of the circus and the stirring sounds of classical music as Bach Before Bedtime (BBB) presents a new show for families.
With An Acrobatic Adventure, BBB has created a fusion of circus and classical chamber music that creates a playful dialogue between art forms to delight even the youngest audience.
The bilingual show is aimed at children up to the age of 7, and will showcase themes of colour, emotion, movement, and sound.
The multidisciplinary concert features Basile Philippe, a young acrobat from France who trained at the École Nationale de Cirque de Châtellerault in France and the École Nationale de Cirque de Montréal. Philippe will showcase a mix of acrobatic moves while accompanied by musicians on the oboe, clarinet, violin, viola, and double bass as they perform music by Sergei Prokofiev.
Artistic Director Dorothy Fieldman Fraiberg said the musicians will interact with Philippe as he explores the world of music with movement.
Parents don’t have to worry about their kids sitting still as the show encourages audience members to sing and dance.
“The children will be encouraged to move and experience the music together with the movements of the acrobat,” Fraiberg said. After the 45-minute production, children can meet the musicians to ask questions and see their instruments up close.
Fraiberg added that the aim is to engage young people in music in a relaxed concert hall setting. Narrated in English and French, the two shows will be performed at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Gesù Ampithéâtre on Bleury St.
