Cirque du Soleil returns to the Big Top

Thrills and excitement will fill the Old Port starting April 20, 2023, when Cirque du Soleil premieres its 20th show under the Big Top. Cirque du Soleil’s new show ECHO brings bold new visuals and a different aesthetic approach with the high-level acrobatics we’ve come to expect from the world-renowned troupe.

Originally scheduled to have its world premiere in April 2020 as Sous un même ciel (Under the Same Sky), the production has undergone changes from its pre-pandemic form to a new title, concept, and the introduction of a new director.

The redesign focuses on today’s youth and their infinite possibility and is represented by Future, played by Montreal-based French circus artist Louana Seclet.

“Cirque du Soleil ECHO will push the values of connection, inspiration and the power of intention. We have the ability to create and manifest the world we want to live in, if we all put our collective minds together and encourage a movement that is pushed by the youth of today,” says Director Mukhtar Omar Sharif Mukhtar.

At the centre of the production, and creating a new challenge for the team, is a two-storey high cube, where artists will perform on top and inside. With approximately 40 artists sharing the stage, there will be poetry, stagecraft, acrobatics, and technology coming together to show the balance between humans, animals, our intertwined world, and the consequences of evolution.

“Fueled by the power of invention, the hope of the youth and the importance of empathy, Cirque du Soleil ECHO invites the audience to participate in a universe of colour, wonder and infinite possibilities.”

Cirque du Soleil ECHO will be presented under the Big Top in the Old Port of Montreal from April 20 to August 20, 2023.
