Circus school hosts workshops and activities

Are you itching to perfect your juggling skills? Has your child always wanted to learn how to walk a trapeze bar? If so, you’ll want to go to L’école de Cirque de Verdun on Sept. 8 for their 30th anniversary celebration, which will include many circus-themed activities for the whole family.

All ages are welcome to participate in five separate sessions that will take place throughout the day. Some activities require reservations while others ask that participants be of a certain age or experience level.

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., people of all ages and levels of experience can learn the basics of acrobatics, trampoline-jumping, juggling, trapeze-balancing and more. Tickets for adults (age 15+) cost $8, kids (age 5-14) cost $10, toddlers (age 2-4) cost $9 and is free for those under 2. Space is limited, so be sure to make a reservation.

From 1:15 to 3:15 p.m., there will be a special event for kids aged 7 and up and adult beginners. Participants will choose two, one-hour activities. The options include unicycle, stilts, balance objects, hula hoops and trapeze. Participants are asked to register on the website a day in advance. Tickets cost $20 per person.

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., experienced adults and adolescents can take part in a workshop that will sharpen their circus skills. Those who participated in the previous day’s events are eligible for this one. Participants will choose from two activities, including the unicycle, acrobatic bicycle, solo and group juggling, pyramids, hula hoops and trapeze.  Participants are asked to register on the website a day in advance. Tickets cost $25 per person.

From 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there will be a family picnic, a photo exposition, fire-jugglers and a performance by a group of professional circus artists.

From 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., students who have gone on to become professional circus artists will put on a performance. Tickets cost $15 for adults (15+) and $9 for kids under 15. A family pass, which includes two children and two adults, is available for $40.

L’école de Cirque de Verdun is located on 5190 Lasalle Blvd, in Verdun.
